The role transformation
The traditional SDR role — dial 60 numbers, send 100 emails, hit a meeting quota — is dying, and 2027 is when most companies feel it. In our survey, 62% of sales leaders expect to have fewer human SDRs on payroll in 12 months. Fewer, but not zero.
The new role we see emerging is the AI SDR operator: one person, RevOps DNA, supervising 4–6 agents across segments. Half the headcount, twice the coverage.
"We went from 8 SDRs to 3, plus 2 AI SDR operators. Same pipeline, half the cost, better attribution."
The pricing shift
Seat pricing for AI SDRs is a philosophical mistake. Nobody buys a robot and pays for a seat — you pay for output. Every vendor we've talked to knows this and about half are already experimenting with outcome pricing.
By end of 2027, we expect roughly half the market to price on meetings booked or pipeline sourced. The transition will be messy — measurement disputes, contract redlines, and a lot of angry customers when they realize their unit economics changed.
The consolidation wave
The AI SDR category has too many vendors doing too much of the same thing. Consolidation is inevitable. Our specific bet: two current top-10 vendors get acquired by a CRM incumbent (Salesforce or HubSpot) in the next 18 months. The strategic logic is obvious — an autonomous SDR is a data moat and a CRM feature at once.
The acquirers will underestimate integration cost and product experience will get worse for 18 months post-acquisition. Standard playbook.
What survives the transition
The teams that thrive in 2027 will have three habits. They'll treat AI SDRs like new hires — with onboarding, coaching, and named owners. They'll measure outcomes, not activity. And they'll refuse to run set-and-forget deployments no matter what the vendor promises.
The teams that struggle will be the ones still measuring dials and emails in 2027.
What we're watching
Three things that will change how we rank vendors in 2027: multi-agent orchestration (an outbound and inbound agent that share context on the same account), truly autonomous handling of complex objections (still not solved), and the emergence of vertical AI SDRs specialized by industry.
